May 14, 2016 4:04 AM in response to RockstarKBby patrickr44,Okay thanks, so even if the app is still showing as running when I double-click the home button and I see it on the list, the app is really just closed but just showing as open?

May 14, 2016 8:24 AM in response to patrickr44by elcpu,Double clicking on the Home button displays the app switcher which allows you to switch to recently open apps. Since phones have a limited amount of RAM most apps there are not active. This article may help:

There's a common misconception that when you double-press the HOME button you are seeing running apps. This is not correct. The apps displayed are apps that have run at some time in the past. None of them are actually running, and only the 3 or 4 most recent apps are actually in memory. The remainder have been swapped out to free RAM for newer apps.

May 14, 2016 10:28 AM in response to Lawrence Finchby patrickr44,I see, thanks. So when I reopen app which appears in that list, that explains why it restarts the app? Because it was closed to free up memory?

That's most likely the case. I know some multi-user apps also spontaneously restart, possibly to refresh their databases. Words with Friends does frequently, for example.
