Make midi record when track is not selected

Hi, asking for my friend and will try and find a solution when I get home, but...

My friend (Using Logic 9.1.8) is doing some recording with about 12 live players/singers. I suggested to him that he should record the midi for the keyboard player (who is also the composer for all the pieces) as well as the audio just to give them a little flexibility later on. She is a great keyboard player and uses her own external keyboard. (i.e. not a logic instrument). All the other singers/players are all audio.

So all this is easy to set up but as such sessions can get a little hectic and although the midi track for the keyboard is in Record mode, the midi does not record unless the track is left selected. Sometimes, in the madness of it all the midi track is not left selected and so the midi data does not get recorded. Is there a way of routing in the environment where the midi will get recorded even though the midi track is not selected? Remember, the midi track is always record armed.

Many thanks

Good Day Sir,

Yep, he's doing that and all tracks go into record ready and into record. But if the only single MIDI track is not left as the selected track (even though it is in record), the MIDI will not be recorded.

Most of the time he remembers to leave it selected but a few times he didn't and the midi was not recorded. Tried the same at home (but not looked into it enough as yet) and the same happens to me, not that I ever use Logic this way. Just thought I'd try my friends.

Many thanks for your reply.

Ok, this works is there's only one MIDI track being recorded with audio, to use multiple MIDI tracks one has to use the Auto-Demix function in Settings/Recording, plus have separate MIDI channels setup... but I don't think that's what you're after.

Edit, shift select the MIDI track first, then while holding shift down select and/or record enable the audio tracks, also works in reverse.
