iPhone 6s factory reset with broken screen

Hi everyone,


I recently broke and sadly smashed my iPhone screen. Luckily I had insurance through my phone carrier and they sent me a new phone. Before sending it they had me remove my iPhone from the iCloud on find my iPhone. I am attempting to do a factory reset on the phone to erase all my old data/etc through the iCloud. Unfortunately it tells me that it won't erase it until the old iPhone is connected to the internet. Because the screen is broken I can not log on to the old iPhone to get it to connect to the wifi in my home so that find my iPhone/iCloud can recognize it to do the factory reset.




Is there any other way to do a factory reset to my phone?

iPhone 6s Plus, iOS 9.3.1

Hi dalekgirl,



If you need to EXTERMINATE the data on your iPhone, you can do so by placing the device in recovery mode and restoring via iTunes.

If you can‘t update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Thanks so much Allen!!! This worked! It took me a couple tries because the crack was near the home button and it kept thinking I wasn't holding the button down the whole time. Eventually it went into recovery mode and it's now wiped so I can send the broken phone into the insurance carrier. 🙂
