Q: Unable to connect to a specific landline number?

I Have a friend that I call a few times on a daily basis. He has a 3rd party landline. I did not have any issues with calling him up until about 3 weeks ago. His phone is working fine without any blocks and he is able to call me. I can call every landline around him but his will not go through on my iPhone. It says the number that you have reached is no longer in service. I have called my provider and they cannot figure it out because i do not have any restrictions on my phone and neither does my friend with his landline number. Has anyone else ever had this issue before. Nobody can seem to figure it out. I have one other friend in a different state who is also unable to call his number also. She does not know why either and we both have he iphone 6.

It is unlikely that it is a problem with your iPhone, what changed with your friend 3 weeks ago?

Nothing at all. He cannot understand it either and keeps bothering me to get it taken care of so that I am able to call him too. We've been friends for 20 years. My friend who also was unable to get a hold of him on her cellphone never even talks to him. Therefore he would not have blocked her. I guarantee you that he does not even know how to block someone. He is nearly 70 years old and will not have a cellphone. It's not him. He has also has a technician out to his home who also had the same cellphone provided and he was able to call him from his cellphone. Everyone is pointing to Apple since I have talked to and have called everyone that I can think of. I'm surprised that I cannot find a solution. I have gone through all settings and have called his neighbors, etc... I'm able to get through.

I'll weigh in on a telco problem with their routing tables. Sometimes tech problems can be weird.

Try some voip app and see if you can reach him by that means. example: the free google hangouts.

If you get desperate, you can try google voice.  Get some google vioce phone number.  Have this phone number forwarded to his number.  This is all free.

Clearly it is his telephone service provider's bailiwick - as evidenced by you AND your friend failing to connect to his number.

Often, when a 1st level responder is stumped, they will tend to point the finger at another company or you. INSIST (politely) on speaking with a supervisor as your proof is your 'other' friend replicating the issue.

I take it that it makes no difference if you call using a contact or enter the number manually?

And that you've checked you can call his number from another phone?

I Also do not think that it's my actual phone. I think that something is blocked somewhere. I just cannot figure out where it is or who is responsible. I just need a solution and I will be happy. I was just curious if this has happened to anyone else. I've even Googled it and did not find anyone who has ever had the same issue. I've turned off wifi and called, reset my phone and everything else that I could think of and I still get the same out of service message.

Party Lines in the US are grandfathered in -- as attrition occurs - the carrier will consolidate the remaining users to other type party lines.    This may have happened to your friend - - there are techs at that phone company that can help him - but they are at an upper level.  (Major mistake breaking up Ma Bell - if they were still one company for the US you could just have it traced from your point of origin).

Nope. I have tried that too. I have deleted him from my contacts, turned my phone off, had it reset and I then tried to call and then add him as a contact again, still the same issue. The only thing that I could think of is that maybe he possibly blocked my lumber on accident, but that does not explain why my friend cannot call since he does not have her number. I do know that landline is through a third party provider though. Something tells me that may have something to do with this. I've never had this happen. It's just strange as I call his number more than any other too.

I Was able to suddenly figure out the issue after I started this post. I started messing with the iCloud that I hadn't signed up for yet. I did not feel that it was necessary. Well, I guess that it was because after I signed up for it, I was able to call his landline. I am not sure if it had to do with the settings that were turned on or the fact that I just needed to register my phone with the iCloud. However, that's what solved the issue. Just to let anyone else know if they ever have that problem. I'm thinking that my friend who also could not call him does not have hers registered either.
