Update your OS X software to v10.11.4.

Instructions here >  How to update OS X

If after the update is installed you still see the same slow and jerky behavior, a Safe Mode boot deletes system caches that may help.

Top left corner of your screen click the  Apple   > Shut Down.

After your Mac shuts down, wait 10 seconds, then press the power button.

Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold down the Shift key. You should press the Shift key as soon as possible after you hear the startup tone, but not before.

Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator.

Once you are in Safe Mode, go back to the Apple  menu. From the drop down menu click:  Restart

Speed should not matter between 10.11.3 & 10.11.4.   Among the feature differences of 10.11.4 are on 10.11.4's update page.

If you are having speed issues, it is likely you have some background application or your machine is filled too close to capacity.

One of the most common issues, is people try to use Time Machine in its automatic backup mode instead of manual backup mode, manually backing up when they go to sleep.  The other is they don't let Spotlight finish its indexing before trying to access certain functions.

If neither is at issue, it may help to look at your Etrecheck report.

    http://www.etrecheck.com

is a free diagnostic software that just diagnoses the most common ailments, and most of us here can tell if it is identifying either an ailment, or an incompatible software when you copy/paste its diagnosis results.

P.S. I do not recommend updating a system without first isolating any performance issues.  Updating is to add or enhance features, not to optimize speed.
