Q: Does iOS sync to the computer or to the library?

SItuation is thus:

My iTunes library is stored on computer A, which is running Mountain Lion. Because computer A is old, I cannot easily update its OS.

Therefore, I cannot install a current version of iTunes which will be able to synch with iOS 9.x.

Computer B is running Windows 8, and has no problem with installing up to date iTunes.

Computer B accesses my iTunes library via Home Sharing.

I Currently synch my iOS devices with computer A.

What will happen if I attempt to synch them with computer B?

Will it pick up that this is the same library they've synched to before, or treat it as synching to a new device?

You should be able to sync with computer B, your iPhone will ask you if it can trust that computer when you plug it in. It will treat it as syncing to a new device. So if you backup your iPhone to computer A and then backup to computer B, they we be treated as two separate and distinct backups.

You will not be able to sync any media that is stored on computer A to an iPhone that is connected to computer B. If you want to sync media to the iPhone while it is connected to computer B you will need to move the media from computer A to computer B first.
