Q: New Software Update Gave Me a Slow Computer. Help!

Hi all! I finally gave in to the annoying software update pop up last night and am now regretting it. I let it install before shutting down my MacBook Pro, and today my computer is running very slowly. Everything takes forever to load. When I click on a menu tab I get the spinning wheel of death. No fun. I'm using OS X 10.9.5 and I've gone through the usual troubleshooting like quitting all applications and checking CPU levels on the Activity Monitor. All looks fine. I've also restarted 3 times but nothing is helping. Do you have any suggestions?

MacBook, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

Please download and run EtreCheck, created by one of own helpers here in ASC. It is a diagnostic tool that's very useful to us in finding problems. Also it will give us further specs on your Mac. After it runs post the log file here. It will contain no personal information

Could be anything from insufficient RAM to other system issues.

It would help us to help you if we could have some more technical info about your iMac.
If you like, please go ahead and download, install and run Etrecheck.
Etrecheck was developed as a simple Mac diagnostic report tool by a regular Apple Support forum user and technical support contributor named Etresoft.
Etrecheck is a small, unobstrusive app that compiles a static snapshot of your entire Mac hardware system and installed software.
This is a free app that has been honestly created to provided help in diagnosing issues with Macs running the newer versions of OS X.
It is not malware and can be safely downloaded and installed onto your Mac.

    http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck

Copy/paste and post its report here in another reply thread so that we have a complete profile of your Mac's hardware and installed software so we can all help with your Mac performance issues. Thank You.

    Drive failure!

Your disk is failing.  Replace the disk.

If you want an additional performance boost, replace it with an SSD.

And then add more RAM (<http://Crucial.com> and <http://MacSales.com> are well respected Mac RAM vendors)

Or that this as a hint, and save your money to get a new iMac.
