Forget "free." Any downloaded copy offered as "free" or "pay for" on the internet is pirated and may well contain malware.

Try a Mac User Group. This link will help you find one:

You do not have to attend a meeting to get help. Often a "looking to buy" e-mail to a groups site will get results.

    Classic Mac OS

    Also note:

10.5 will not let you use Classic with an older PowerPC Mac, though if the Mac booted into Mac OS 9, it still can through Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Startup Disk with 10.5.

10.5 will not give Boot Camp to PowerPC Macs.

Intel Macs are usually better served by the still available 10.6 software that costs less from the Apple Store.

To determine if you have an Intel or PowerPC go to Apple menu -> About This Mac.

10.5 does offer Time Machine to all Macs.  And later operating systems have it as an archival backup software.  For more on backing up, see this FAQ*:

    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html

PowerPC, PPC, PowerMac are all synonymous to some degree.

See this tip if you have an Intel Mac to determine how far you want to go with it:
