I have an email address that auto fills that i want to remove. it is not in my contacts and i have removed it from previous recipients, but every time i start to tap a certain email address this one comes up again. so i try to edit it, and that doesn't help either. it's not important in the scope of things, but it's not what i expect from apple. i still want it gone.

I had the same issue - removing the offending email address from the Previous Recipients window didn't help - the email address kept auto-completing itself.
Then, I discovered the offending email was in my address book. When I deleted it from my address book, only then did it stop showing up in mail autocomplete.

I had the same problem and this worked for me. I started a new message and started typing the name, then copied the resulting unwanted email address. I pasted it in spotlight and saw the results. I double clicked on each one which took me to the offending entry in the corresponding application, and I deleted it from inside that program. Lo and behold Mail stopped giving me the bad address! Good luck!
Open Mail>Window>Previous Recipient then highlight the name for removal and choose "Remove from List"
Is this in Mail or a browser?
Is it an old address you had at one time? If so, check in Mail preferences, Account tab, and check the SMTP server list for it. If it is there, remove it.
done that many times, doesn't work. it keeps reappearing. it is i mail, not any browser.
Try these steps and let us know if it works please:
like i've said. i've done that and it does not remove it permanently. the next time i start to type it auto fills the same address again.

true, but i have still tried to remove the previous recipient the conventional ways with no luck. the only advice so far told me to do what i have said i've already done. i'm hoping for some magic.
My last suggestion removes the address from auto-complete which is not the same thing as my first suggestion which only removes the address from your contacts. Auto-complete is still storing this address which I'm hoping will be removed permanently if you try my second suggestion.
aw, i see. unfortunately it has not worked. this address was never and is still not in my contacts. nor is there and SMTP either. what i find is that i can remove previous recipient, try to type the address which then autofills with the address i don't want. if i don't accept it and then go back into previous recips the address is not there, but it is still trying to autofill. if i accept it but don't send the email it is back in the previous recips.
Sorry neither of my suggestions didn't work for you. Frankly, I'm out of ideas so anything else I might suggest may cause loss of data.
Perhaps one of our more knowledgeable members will chime in with additional troubleshooting steps you can try.
If you open up the Previous Recipient List in Mail, does that address even show up at all?
