Q: OS X El Capitan Installer Could Not be Verified

I wanted to perform a clean reinstall of OS X on my MacBook Pro (9,2), so I booted into Ubuntu, completely wiped the drive, and then reinstalled OS X Mountain Lion (which is what it initially came with). Unfortunately, when I tried to download and install OS X El Capitan from the app store, I keep getting the following error message:

This copy of the Install OS X El Capitan application can't be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading.

I have redownloaded the installer numerous times and yet I keep getting the same error message. The OS X Mavericks and OS X Yosemite installers both throw the same errors.

Any help would be appreciated!

The solution did not work. The date and time has always been set to get it automatically from Apple. I set the time back to October of last year, it still did not work. Then I updated the time in the terminal and tried yet again, and it still refuses to install. I don't think this is a date and time issue...

create a bootable installer on a USB stick

Then
Open the terminal:
Enter: installer -pkg /volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ Install\ DVD/Packages/OSInstall.mpkg -target /Volumes/"XXX" where XXX is the name of the disk you're installing to.
Wait for the installation to say it's complete. You will not see any sort of graphical progress display.

In attempting to create a bootable USB stick, it instead threw an error that said: "The copy of the installer app failed." I tried two 16 GB USB sticks, and neither of them worked...
