From your post, it sounds like you have two different tasks to complete as part of the same issue.
You are correct that you will need to authorize your computer in iTunes in order to play your purchased content. To complete this task, please follow the instructions in the first article below.

Once the computer has been authorized, use the information in the next article to download your music to the iTunes library so you can listen to it.
On a Mac or PC
- Open iTunes.
- Click Sign In, and then enter your Apple ID and password.

- Click your name and select Purchased from the menu.

- Click "Not in My Library" to view purchased content that isn't on your computer.

- Scroll to find the item that you want to download.
- Click the Download icon
in the upper-right corner of the item that you want to download. Your song downloads to your library.
