Q: Deleting and adding an account on an iphone

I want to delete a Yahoo Acct. on an iPhone and then I want to add a new account. Is it as easy as going into settings, selecting the Yahoo Acct. and deleting the acct. and then adding the new acct? Thanks.

iPad mini Wi-Fi + Cellular, iOS 7.1.2

Gail, I set up her iPad with a Yahoo e-mail account and an Apple ID. I have everything written down for her as to all passwords, security questions and everything she will need for the iPad. I had nothing to do with her iPhone. I was just trying to help.  Since I had nothing to do with the iPhone I think I will just print off the information from you, and the others, and give it to this lady I am helping and and tell her to get her family figure it out as it was one of then who are responsible for this mess anyway. i appreciate you and the others who have helped trying to get this straightened out. Thank you so much.

You are most welcome - sorry it turned into something more complicated than you had planned

Yes, just delete the bad account under Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendar and then add the newly created account. Simple and clean.

Apparently you did not read the entire thread. We have not established whether the Yahoo account is just an email account, but since the OP needs a password, it is likely the Apple Account, and as was stated in many of the preceding responses, there are ramifications to just "changing" an Apple ID. Also, if the phone is Activation Locked, then none of it can be done until the password is recovered.

If it had been that easy, we would have suggested that a long time ago....

    Gail,

Then allow me to speak in wasted tongue and state that there are two scenarios here...either this yahoo account is signed in on the device through iCloud with Find My iPhone enabled and in this case the customer will need to pursue resolution through AppleCare or an ARS Genius Bar appt w/proof of purchase to verify the original ownership of the product...Or, the account is simply signed into Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendar as a normal email account in which case, the customer will simply need to tap on this and choose to delete the account from the device before adding the new one.

Since the OP has already stated he doesn't remember these details, there isn't much use in troubleshooting this matter further until he has the device in hand to confirm our inquiries.

That's correct. Which is why I indicated that just saying that all the OP had to do was to sign out the Yahoo email may or may not have been the best advice to be giving someone who admittedly is not familiar with Apple devices.

Throughout the thread, I have been trying to establish whether or not the Yahoo email address is also the Apple ID.

We have not gotten a confirmation one way or the other at this point. So, again, putting out a solution without knowing all the circumstances can be even more confusing than continuing to try to get to the facts....

Gail, the solution is 1 of either of the 2 options I have presented. Unless Grandma is running some form of a profile on her phone, those will be the only solutions.

    "Cheers"

Yes - no one is disputing that. I'm not sure what other point you are trying to make.

My point was that your initial response made an assumption about the OP's question, and since the OP clearly stated that they did not really know Apple stuff, making a definitive post like that can be even more confusing for the poster when we do not have enough information to make a statement like that....

    I'm out.
