Q: Mac book pro screen freezes with purple lines and 3 beeps

Alright back in September I took my mac book pro I had got in 2013 into an apple store in order to fix the question mark folder icon on startup. Since then, whenever I moved the computer, the screen would freeze with purple lines and I would have to restart it. It worked, just annoying. Recently, the screen would do the same thing without me moving it at all, but this time when I go to power it off and on again, I get a black screen with 3 beeps. I figured I would need to take it in if I wanted to ever turn it on again. Today I tried turning it on just to see what would happen, and it worked. However, it just did the same thing as before. Frozen screen with purple lines and 3 beeps. I just want to know if anyone else had this problem and how much it would cost to fix.

    Try restarting your Mac.


    Try Safe Boot:


    - Shut down your Mac

    - Wait until your computer turns off and after that press the Power button

    - Right after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key

    - Release the Shift key when you see a grey Apple sign and the progress bar below this sign

    - After your Mac boots up, restart it as you usually do.


    If this doesn't help, follow the instructions below:


    - Shut down your Mac

    - Wait until your computer turns off and after that press the Power button

    - Right after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key

    - Release the Shift key when you see a grey Apple sign and the progress bar below this sign

    - Once you see Desktop, start a Disk Utility scan to detect and repair file system errors (don't forget to choose your main hard drive)

    - Click on Verify Disk and then, if asked to fix problems, on Repair Disk

    - After this, click on Verify Disk Permissions and then on Repair Disk Permissions

    - After the process is finished, shut down your Mac and turn it back on after about 30 seconds

    I'd also suggest upgrading your RAM.

    The 3 beeps suggest that your MBP has a problem with RAM.  The modules and or the slots may be faulty.

     

    See if you can run an Apple hardware Test.  That may offer a clue:

    Note that an error free AHT is not conclusive.

     

    Try this test:

     

    Take out the RAM modules.  Take one module and insert it in one slot and then boot the MBP.  Repeat the process by inserting the same RAM module in the other slot.  Then do the same with the other RAM module.  This may allow you to determin if one RAM module or one slot is malfunctioning.
