Also restart your computer. Then run iTunes and connect iPod. If that does not help...
itunes report it corrupt
If the iPod has data corruption, you'll need to do a Restore on it using iTunes. This erases the iPod, reinstalls its software, and sets it to default setting. If the iPod currently appears in iTunes when connected, you can do the Restore from the iPod's Summary settings screen in iTunes
If the iPod does not appear in iTunes currently, try putting the iPod into Disk Mode

Then connect it to your computer running iTunes. If iTunes picks it up, it should prompt you to do a Restore. After doing a Restore, you can re-sync content from your iTunes library as desired. If the problem was data corruption (no hardware problem), the Restore should fix it.
I have uninstalled Itunes then reinstalled it
NOTE: If you did this already, you probably did not completely remove iTunes and related software components. This Apple document lists all components of an iTunes installation, and the precise order to uninstall them
