Apple TV not appearing on Remote App on same Access Point

We have 12 Apple TV that are used in a school environment and are used by the staff to mirror their iPAD's. The Apple TV's are kept out of the way so the Remote App is needed to wake the Apple TV's up when they go to sleep. The problem is when both the Apple TV and the iPAD are connected to the same access point the Apple TV doesn't appear in the list of devices. They are all connected to the same SSID and the devices appear when the iPADs are connected to a different Access point to the Apple TV. The Apple TV's are 3rd generation and the iPAD's are running ios 9.3.1 so are all up to date and the Remote App is the latest version. Is there any configuration that needs to be changed or any requirements that are needed for it to work.

Could you please describe your network in a bit more detail. You have one WiFi network with multiple access points? What are the access points, and how are they configured?

It sounds like the access point is not routing the poll used by the remote app to find the available devices. And the central router is not routing the poll back to its source.

I'm not sure if you need the remote app to wake the ATVs. The ATV 4 implements the wake on LAN function even over WiFi, so it starts when yiu initiate AirPlay to it. Perhaps the ATV 3 does also?

You're right about ATV 3 waking up on LAN. However we still have the problem of connecting to the Apple TV with the Remote app. All the Apple TV's and IPAD's are connected wirelessly to the same SSID with a single Access Points in each room. The Access Points are configured in 802.11 n/b/g in both 2.4 and 5 bands.

What is the make and model of the access points?

How are they configured?

How are they connected to the main router? Wired or WiFi?

As I said before, it sounds like the discovery polls sent by the iPad are being sent through the access point and routed to the other access points. But they are not being routed back to the originating access point. There may be an setting in the access point or the router that would enable this.
