Problem connecting to AX88179 USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet
Hello!
I'm having trouble connecting my Mac to the internet. Been trying for the last five hours this is last resort! Please help.
My Mac version is as follows: MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2011) 10.11.4
I have been trying to connect my Mac to the dormitory Router. I don't have an ethernet port on my Mac Air so I went out and bought one. I didn't think I would have to buy an Apple. However, the one I bought is apparently fine: it's an Asix model (AX88179 USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet). I realise my Mac only has USB 2,0 but I thought I should buy a better one in case later I get a new computer and need it. I have tried everything to connect it over the last five hours save for messing with the Terminal (I'm worried about breaking my system). The router looks fine and has all the lights on correctly and is recognised by the system. I have tried all the different rebooting/resetting, +/- -ing downloading and uninstalling reinstalling driver combinations. Is there anything I can do to make my Mac realise the ethernet cable is in?
TLDR Need to connect AX88179 USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet to MacBook Air (Mid 2011) 10.11.4
- Have downloaded the correct drivers
-System preferences shows USB port as being AX88179
- Network preferences says "Either the cable for AX88179 USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet is not plugged in or the device at the other end is not responding"
I'm sorry I am not very computer savvy so please be patient with me.
Thanks in advance!
MacBook Air, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)
