My remote won't let me navigate the home screen. Already restarted twice. Any idea of what to do?

Ddid it work before? Did you follow the instructions for pairing it to ATV?
Yes I have had it for yeara so it has been working. the light on the base flickers when I lress the buttons so it isn't the battery.
It must be blinking 3 times - flicker - this means it is ignoring the remote which is working.
To resolve this unpair the remote:
Pair or unpair your Apple Remote with your Apple TV (3rd generation or earlier) - Apple Support
Obviously use the second method described since you can not navigate the menus.
Try replacing the battery.
