Bose wireless bluetooth audio headphones volume low

I am experiencing low volume output with the Bose Soundlink around ear wireless headphones II when connecting to my iPhone 6 iOS 9.3, macbook pro el capitan 10.11.14, and iPad 9.2. I have to play the music app all the way at max, however when i plug in the headphones with the back up audio cable it came with the volume is much louder. It seems to be less of a problem with the podcast app. I called bose and they didn't seem to be of much help
