May 18, 2016 8:48 AM in response to Bigwagon36by Luckm,There are many reports of this happening on the internet. I called Apple this morning to get an opinion, and the person I talked to said they had never heard there was a problem. Apple very slow to respond. I have decided not to update.

May 18, 2016 8:50 AM in response to danbigoeby jkjones1,They tried to tell me I would need to wait 3-5 days. I told them I used it for work and after talking to a manager, they approved a return of the busted one (I was past 30 days) and repurchase of a new one (which they had in stock).

May 18, 2016 8:52 AM in response to Luckmby danbigoe,An Apple tech supervisor told me that I should wait at least two weeks before installing any new ios update, "to work the bugs out." Feels a lot like Microsoft product support using users as guinea pigs.

May 18, 2016 8:56 AM in response to Bigwagon36by filippo.b,Just came back from Apple Store. After trying unsuccessfully to restore they decided to change the ipad. Unfortunately there are not items available at this time so I'll have to wait at least another two days. Crazy

May 18, 2016 8:56 AM in response to danbigoeby Luckm,That's what I'm going to do. My tech support person said they did not know there was a problem. You got a better tech support person. Apple should have sent out a "do not upgrade " message for all 9.7 users.

May 18, 2016 8:57 AM in response to danbigoeby GRBU2,I haven't updated my iPad Pro 9.7 to iOS 9.3.2 yet based on all the news out there on this issue. I think Apple is well aware of this issue, but don't want to make a big deal out of it. As you've seen, the media was on top of it originally, but in the last couple days, there have been no updates and has been forgotten mostly. I'm guessing if it truly is a hardware issue, Apple hasn't had time to complete the fix unless they knew about it and made changes and still shipped "bad" product out originally. If it is a software/firmware issue, then there should be a change to the update and those of us waiting to update should hear something as to when it is okay to do so. In any event, this issue hasn't been handled very clearly and openly with the customers.
Curious though for those who have had their iPad replaced, have you updated to iOS 9.3.2 or are you waiting? If you've updated, did it go okay and did you do it wired via iTunes or OTA? Thanks.

4. If you still see the error message, you can check for outdated or modified software or contact Apple support.

May 18, 2016 12:39 PM in response to Bigwagon36by JoshuaDBain,As Apple can probably tell we are all p****** off here. So why have they at least not had the decency to allow a downgrade. Unless they are going to patch the issue or it is a genuine hardware problem with a faulty batch.

May 18, 2016 1:24 PM in response to Bigwagon36by Ducaticorse,My iPad Pro 9.7 is bricked as well, same symptoms as mentioned earlier in the thread. Attempted OTA (WiFi) update like I did on my other three iOS devices and it flipped to the recovery screen. Attempts to recover/update fail at about 75% of progress on the white Apple screen, throwing Error 56 on the computer side.
Had a chat last night with Apple online support who went in circles and said my iMac had a problem. I explained that I had tried the update on three different OSX machines: iMac, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. All three, with three different OEM Lightning cables all failed the same way at the same point. I ended p dropping off the chat as it was going nowhere.
Took the Pro 9.7 to the Genius Bar today and replicated the same Error 56 on their machine in-store. They are replacing my iPad (6 weeks old) but as others have mentioned, they didn't have any on hand or at neighboring stores, so it's "on order." No ETA for the replacement unit. Bummer!
