May 20, 2016 8:32 AM in response to JoshuaDBainby babowa,I've read that if you pick up your replacement in store, it is suggested that you update it in store - just in case. And/or if the replacement exhibits the same problem, it will be replaced again.

May 20, 2016 8:47 AM in response to babowaby Linda Van Thiel,Tried doing OTA update to 9.3.2 on my iPad Pro 9.7 this morning - 128 WiFi space gray - and it won't let me do it. Says that 9.3.1 is the current OS. So i turned off-back on. Same status. Then did a hard reboot - same status. So I turn on my iMac (mid 2011 running 10.9.5) to try a connected update. Nope, still says 9.3.1 on this model iPad is the current version.
I still have a grey (1) at Settings > General > Software Update on the iPad.
Just did a hard reboot and tried the OTA update again -- still stays 9.3.1 is current. Again connected to iMac and did the check for update. "This version of the iPad software (9.3.1) is the current version."
So is my model one that would have bricked if I had done the update earlier? And with the new update version on the Apple servers it simply won't let me update to keep it from becoming a brick??????
I am patient. I will not force an update.

May 20, 2016 8:59 AM in response to Bigwagon36by vlbcfcl,I didn't have an iPad Pro, but my iPad 3 bricked up while attempting the upgrade to iOS 9.3.2 on Wednesday. I took it to the Apple Store / Genius Bar. The tech could not restore from iTunes.
If there's a specific error number, we're not seeing it (or missed seeing it). However, the "coincidence" is about the size of Rhode Island...

May 20, 2016 9:06 AM in response to JoshuaDBainby IGreen,I tried the update again on my "bricked" iPad Pro 9.7 yesterday. It would seem that Apple has pulled the update for the iPad Pro 9.7" as iTunes no longer tried to update the unit to 9.3.2 but instead attempted 9.3.1. When I plugged in my iPad Pro 12" iTunes offered to attempt to update it to 9.3.2.

May 20, 2016 9:10 AM in response to Linda Van Thielby Luckm,Linda,
I think it is wise to not force an update. I am not going to update until I hear something official from Apple. Until we hear an official Apple announcement, all any of us are doing is guessing. It would be wonderful if Apple would let us know what is going on, but they typically do release any information until they are clear what the problem is.

May 20, 2016 9:16 AM in response to Red Jacket Mikeby IGreen,A software bug relating to firmware flash can most certainly "appear" to be a hardware issue. If they screw up where/what gets written to the flash the system can get confused and make iTunes think there is a hardware issue. Keep in mind iTunes is what is reporting a HW problem. It is doing so because when it attempts to update the flash it fails. To iTunes....that looks like a HW issue.

May 20, 2016 9:21 AM in response to Luckmby Linda Van Thiel,Luckm:
Am doing my iPad mini (original, not retina) now OTA. It recognized the update and is doing it. did have the same issue as with 9.3.1 where I had to re-enter my Apple ID, but it is going albeit very slowly. [success - and I often forget it does not have TouchID]
At least Apple pulled the original update before more iPP9.7s got bricked. I bet they had enough info from the ones turned in on the first two days that they could identify the specific manufacturing specs. I am also very glad that I read the Apple blogs regularly (I am retired and get bored easily) and discovered the problem right away and did not get bit. Fortunately I do have an Apple Store within 5 miles of me, but I hate it when my tech devices get sick.
IGreen:
Glad my sister and I are not the only Apple Fanatics that bought BOTH the iPPro sizes
Did your 9.7 wake up to 9.3.1 or is it still in a coma?
-
May 20, 2016 9:28 AM in response to Linda Van Thielby IGreen,My 9.7" is still in a coma. The Apple Store has ordered a replacement but quoted what to me seemed like an excessively long lead time for the product to arrive. They said anywhere from 3-7 days. I suspect they are trying to buy time for engineering to figure out what they did wrong and how they can recover from the problem without having to make a hardware swap. I don't think there is an issue with the hardware.....I think they hosed up the flash process and corrupted something with the 9.7" code.

May 20, 2016 9:47 AM in response to JoshuaDBainby Phil0124,It seems Apple has pulled the 9.3.2 update for 9.7" iPad Pros. so the point is now moot. all we can do now is wait for Apple to issue a statement or update about what to do next.

May 20, 2016 10:23 AM in response to Phil0124by babowa,Apparently so - my iPad Pro suddenly changed from "update available" to "your software is up to date (9.3.1)".
