Can I upgrade to an SSD on my Macbook pro?

Hey all!

I am looking to upgrade/repair some things on my MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) in the near future.

Since it seems to be my hard drive at the root of most problems, I'd like to see about replacing it with an upgrade.

My main question is would an SSD like this one work? http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-256GB-2-5-Inch-Internal-MZ-7KE256BW/dp/B00LMXBOP4/ ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1463452630&sr=1-3&keywords=Samsung+SSD

If not, any recommendations as far as harddrives go? Is there a specific cable that is required for my macbook pro model?

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012)

2.9 GHz Intel Core i7

Thanks!

Csound1 is urging some caution about the Samsung 850 series because there have been numerous problems reported involving abrupt failures as well as the inability to reformat or partition. Experienced this myself with a 2009 MBP and it wasn’t the SATA cable. It is hard to say whether this is an issue that affects specific models since we don’t always get all the particulars but the reports have been numerous enough that for now I continue to advise against the Samsung 850 series. Sad because the 840 series was a star performer at a good price.

They are a best seller on Amazon with 4.8 out of 5 in over 10,000 reviews, so is it specific to Macs or something more general? Solid state devices tend to fail early (if they fail at all), so I'm wondering if it is just the normal failure percentage. I'm using them in a couple of McBook Pros and a couple of Mac Pros without issue, although I've had an OWC SSD fail.

You have used all of them, or just a few?
