Q: uninstalling FCP 2

Hello everyone, I was experiencing some issues with FCP2 running on OS X El Capitan. A buddy of mine had the same issues with FCP2. He chose to uninstall and reinstall FCP2 on El Capitan and as of now everything appears to be running fine. Not sure why in theory this would work but it appears to be doing so. I'm curious if I do the same thing do I or should I be worried about my projects and files coming up missing or should I sleep well tonight knowing they will be fine.

Thank you

I think you mean Final Cut Studio 2 - Final Cut Pro 2 only runs on PPC processor Macs.

Sometimes system files that are used by Final Cut and the other included Studio apps can become corrupt and cause all sorts of unexpcted behavior.  A complete uninstall/reinstall can sometimes fix those problems.  But that's usually a last resort.  You didn't mention the nature of your specific problems so it would be impossible to say if yours can be corrected by another, simpler solution.

If you do need to completely uninstall FCS, use this freeware utility - it is designed to remove all of the various files the installer places in the system folders: https://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcsremover/

Also, if you uninstall/reinstall, make a disc image of each of the FCS installer discs first.  It will greatly speed up the reinstall process.

Thanks for getting back to me David. Well a couple things are occurring. One problem is right from the beginning when I try and convert my footage to Apple Pro Res. After successfully uploading (4) to (5) clips to my browser the Log and Transfer window crashes and I lose everything I uploaded. If I remember correctly the whole program crashes. The second thing that occurs is that I can't export or compress my footage out of FCP. These are the (2) main issues I've been experiencing. That's why I was curious if I should just attempt to uninstall reinstall. Thanks David
