Computer turns on, screen is grey, shows the apple and a loading bar under then loads about half way then computer shuts off. Any idea what's wrong and are all my pictures and videos gone???

What year is this computer? A failing HD can show this symptom.
2013 I think. It was working fine then the next day it wouldn't turn on.
Boot into the recovery partition:

From the 4 option menu, select Disk Utility.
Run Disk Utility>First Aid>Repair.
