Changed password on a Yahoo Mail account but Safari will not let me save the new password and username.

Yesterday I changed my password on a Yahoo Mail account but Safari (6.1.6) on iMac OSX 10.7.5, will not let me save the new password. I now have to type in my username then Safari auto populates the old password. I can access my emails by typing in the correct password but I cannot find a way to update Safari to remember the new password or username. I have had a look on some forums and followed the advice given on there but none of these have worked:- Check that User Name and Password checkbox is ticked; Delete the entry in Safari Preferences; Verify the disk in Disk Utility and Click on Repair Disk Permissions; Click on ‘Repair’ in Keychain First Aid and add password etc into Keychain. Remove all Website Data and clear History. Switch off and unplug before turning back on. Can anyone help, please.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Hi...

You need to delete the old keychain.

Open the Keychain Access app located in Applications > Utilites

Then select Passwords on the left.

Type in the name of your Yahoo mail account in the search field top right corner of the Keychain Access window.

Then right or control click that keychain then click Delete.

Now on Safari go to Yahoo, login with your user name and password. You should be prompted to save that data to a new keychain. The next time you visit that site Safari should autofill your login data for you.

Thank you for your reply but I have already done this and it has made no difference. I thought I had mentioned everything that I had tried, in my question above, but I forgot to include that. The only item in keychain with that same username is on for secure.booking.com (which I think was used for a hotel booking) and I thought that was something different. Would I need to delete this?

Doubtful the secure.booking.com is related to your Yahoo mail account login data.

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab then click: Remove All Website Data. (That removes cookies, not your login data).

Then quit and relaunch Safari and try logging into your Yahoo account.

Try checking Safari/Preferences/Passwords to see if the website is there. If so, select it, tab over to the password field, and enter the new password. If required, delete the entry and add it back.

Thanks Eric but it isn't in there because I deleted it (mentioned above) although I cannot change the password in Safari/Preferences/Passwords or add a new one. I have tried adding it in to Keychain as suggested, on another forum, for someone else's problem (again mentioned above) but this has not worked either.

In Safari/Preferences/Passwords, try selecting the website and then hit return. To get to the password field, tab over to it. That should allow you to change the password.
