Configurator 2 - Renaming iPads
Configurator 1 finally bit the dust for me a few days back. In fact it was the closest I have ever come to ejecting the entire Mac from my 1st floor office. The only thing that stopped was the realisation that it would be more fun from, the 10th floor, and I didn't want to go all the way up there...
So. in all seriousness...configurator 1 decided to refuse to accept that my Mac was authorised to download content a few days back. Bizarre as it had been working reasonably for a few years now. I tried a few fixes but failed. Rapidly losing patience, I decided now was a good time to move to Configurator 2 anyway, so felt I should give this a stab.
So far I am reasonably impressed. I mean yes, the layout is borderline nonsensical, but parts of it seem a bit easier on the eyes. And on the plus side, this version believed my Mac was authorised to transfer apps to devices. So happy days. I created a Blueprint, Profile and assigned apps. I then prepared and uploaded the Blueprint to my Pads with ease.
The ONLY issue I have is when I go to rename any of my iPads. I go to Modify -> Device name. I can type my own name in, or use one of the preset variables. No matter what I choose, when I click OK, i get a message:
"Rename failed on iPad. Enter a different name than 'ipadname' and try again."
As you can imagine I have tried again. Many times Even using names as simple as "1" or "A" or "Hello" or "iPad1" and as I said, I also used some of the preset variables such as Serial Number etc. All to no avail.
So does anyone have any ideas? Or am I going to have to view this as some kind of glitch that won't get resolved...
