Q: Apple TV

Hi

 

i am new to apple so i hope this inst a silly question.

 

I have a main computer with lots of movies and TV shows. If i was to get an apple TV can i watch these anywhere in the house or on the TV with the Apple TV on it. without moving them from the main computer?

    Assuming your movies and tv shows are in iTunes and your network (ethernet or wifi) is available where you setup you Apple TV and at your computer, yes you can watch them on the TV connected directly to the Apple TV.

    The computer would need to be on with iTunes running while watching the shows because they remain on the computer and are just streamed to the ATV as you watch them.

    This particular feature on the ATV is called Home Shraring: Use Home Sharing to share iTunes content with other devices - Apple Support

    In fact if your network is wifi, you can try this out using your iPhone by setting up sharing between it and the computer as outlined in the article.
