Extra Charge on Purchases of Music Albums from ITunes Store

Hi,

I am based in the UK. Whenever I buy a music album from the ITunes store, there is always an extra initial charge. For example, I will look at an album on Itunes Store. Let's say the price is £6.99. I buy the album, expecting the total price to be £6.99, However, a day or two after buying the album there will be an amount of £1.58 taken out of my account, titled 'ITunes Bill'. Then, a couple of weeks later, the £6.99 will come out of my account, along with an email receipt. What is the extra £1.58 charge and why am I paying it on top of the advertised price of £6.99?

Okay, I have checked my ITunes account. These extra charges do not appear in my purchase history, and my bank statements do not show the amounts being credited back into my account. So maybe I have been consistently overcharged and need to report this?

You should contact your card issuer, they should be automatically removing them.

Are you adding/changing payment details (including entering the card's security code) each time that you buy something ? If you are then they are temporary charges, your card issuer should automatically remove them within a few days or so : About payment card authorization holds in the iTunes Store - Apple Support

Hi King_Penguin, thanks for your input. To be honest I have used the same payment card since I first bought my ipod 3 years ago and first set up an itunes account. Nothing has changed. So I am stumped as to why these extra small payments are being deducted.

You weren't prompted to enter the card's security code (nor changing/entering for your address), and on your card's statement there aren't corresponding credits a few days later (temporary store holding charges are generally removed within a few days, though it varies by card issuer) ? If they are 'proper' charges they should show on your iTunes account's purchase history : See your purchase history in the iTunes Store on a Mac or PC - Apple Support

No, I wasn't prompted to enter my card's details. I just click the 'Purchase' button on the itunes store and it automatically starts downloading the tracks.

Also, on my bank statement, those small amounts have not been put back in my account.

How does it show on your account's purchase history ? The amount would tie up with it being a temporary store holding charge, which most card issuers remove within a few days (depending upon how efficient they are).
