AVG won't complete scan

Hi guys.

I recently had some problem with malware on my macbook pro (os x el capitan version 10.11.15). I downloaded malware bytes to remove the suspect files, and since then have been using AVG every now and then to check everything is ok.

I have been trying to run AVG anti-virus for the past few days and it seems to freeze on the one particular file. (see attached photo) I have tried to go into that folder and manually delete it but it does not exist.

Is this a virus? How should I fix it?

Any help would be appreciated!

fix it by removing it and asking for your money back

AVG and other Mac AV products have been found to cause far more problems than they purport to fix.

check these forums, issues range from interference with the OS to kernel panics and CTD's.

You are not protecting yourself against Mac virus' because there are none, and if this is your first defense against Windows virus on your network your PC's should be doing that, not the mac. Mac AV has not had the decades it's PC counterparts have to integrate with the OS. At this time it's not needed and it will cause problems. No mac "virus" has been reported by any securities lab in the wild to date.

Your best defense on mac again this kind of think is keeping your system updated with securities patches and OS patches from Apple Computer; that and common sense browsing.

Malwarebytes is not AV and does not behave like AV, it scans and removes Malware already present but if anyone tells Mac's have a virus ask them to name one that exists outside a security lab.

There are no viruses for OS X, so I don't know what AVG is supposed to protect you from. It can't keep malware and adware off your system because unlike viruses, which install themselves, malware and adware are installed by you when you download applications/plugins/extensions/drivers from websites you shouldn't, like torrent sites and aggregate download sites. Many times, if not every time, those installers are bundled with malware, and when you install whatever it was you were looking for, you also install a whole bunch of garbage you weren't looking for. No program can override your common sense, not like that. If you want to avoid malware infections, only download from the Mac App Store or the developer's own website. Don't download pirated or cracked software. Don't click on random links when you don't know where they go to.

IMHO, you should uninstall AVG following the developer's instructions, which you can find here.

I agree with all of the comments as to having AVG installed. However, the stopping at a particular file

and not being able to find it can be a different issue.

I suggest that you open Disk Utility and do a disk repair on the volume that that file is supposedly

located on. There may be a directory issue or it could be that that file is corrupted some how.

Oh yeah, get rid of AVG.
