Q: Poor decisions are being made in the developement of Itunes.

My hope is that somehow this might get attention from the developers.

I am a strip club dj, producer, and generally just an avid music fan that likes to spend lots of time with my music.

Auto-rating for albums is not a feature that users who avidly sort through music or use ratings to navigate playlists while working enjoy what-so-ever. This problem could be easily solved by simply putting in an option in the preferences to enable or disable auto-ratings.

I literally pray each time an update comes out that this has been added or auto-ratings be done away with. It affects my work and in consequently my daily life.

In this current update the option to "Show Duplicates" has vanished. I use that feature a lot. Please don't take that from me. Please?

Also the search function on at least windows is broken. I can no longer search a song using portions of different fields to come up with results. I have to input one field, press enter, and then input the rest. An example being:
If I searched "Miguel Wildheart" it would come up with nothing because I used both the artist and song field to search. However If I inputted "Miguel" hit enter and then typed out "wildheart" after it would come up with the result that did not show previously.
While this might be easy to overcome it has been rather hard to break the habit after spending literally the entire lifetime of iTunes using the search bar to its utmost flexibility.

I have spoken to people in the store and have called customer support service. Everyone seems to see these flaws but can do generally nothing about them. I hope there is someone out there that can see this and cares. I just want to use iTunes to its fullest potential like I have for years.

From the menu bar, File -> Library -> Show Duplicate Items

Since this is Apple's user discussion forum, you may also want to send your feedback to Apple here

Try my scripts ClearAlbumAutoRating and ClearTrackAutoRating to get rid of the hollow stars. Test with a small sample first to make sure they do what you want.

Moving the location of the duplicates menu does seem a little odd. All those existing helpful topics here, on the web, and even Apple's own support documentation Find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library - Apple Support are now wrong.

I cannot see any obvious signs that search has changed. Click the magnifying glass in the search window and make sure Search Entire Library is not ticked and that Filter By: All is ticked. Note that in some cases you may need to switch to the Songs view and enable columns you want to be included when searching for matching text.

I was deeply hoping I was overlooking it. They went drop menu crazy in this. That's unfortunate with some of the things I want to access quickly but I'm glad it's still there.

I've tried a few scripts and had not previously had luck. The ClearTrackAutoRating just saved my life. You sir are a truly benevolent handyman. I am so grateful for that script. Thank you so much. That just saved me more headache then I can possibly communicate to you.

Yeah I feel silly for not seeing it but at the same time they really went drop menu crazy in this one. Even now go to song is now Go to > Go to song when clicking the "..." next to the song in the player. Why complicate such simple tasks?

I've had the search problem on multiple computers. This changed on the update to 12.0 for me. Went to the store to see their staff multiple times and most said it seems to be a problem only had by a few and they didn't have any clue what to do. One told me my music collection was too large. It was at 12,000 songs. That's the smallest collection I've had in about a decade.

    You're welcome.

Hopefully that search tip will work for you too. I've been using it since 12.0 came out.

I was rushing and overlooked the tip for some reason. It totally worked. You're a wizard my friend. I appreciate you.
