I didn't drop or damage it. This happened once before, a few months back. I rebooted, and it went away. Today, it is back. I have tried a few reboots, and it seems to be fading, but what is going on?
Try changing some of the controls in Settings > Display & Brightness.
Try a Forced Restart. Hold down the Home and Wake/Sleep buttons at the same time for about 15-20 seconds until the Apple logo appears. You will not lose anything.
If that does not help try a System Restore. First backup your device using iTunes. Also import your photos to your computer and copy all important data. Try restoring from backup first and testing it. If it does not help, you may have to restore as New and reconfigure from scratch as the backup could be corrupted. For this reason it is important to have your photos and data saved separately from the backup. Here are the steps for a Restore:

The screen is almost back to normal. When I reboot, typically the apple logo is on a jet black background. I can still see the icons a little behind the black (the black is a little bit transparent still). But when it first went out, the whole screen with the icons had a vignetted on the corners, white fog over it. Very strange. Someone made a joke about getting one's eyes checked...that's almost what it looks like...like I have a foggy film over my eyes!
No I can't, sorry. From this end it is impossible to tell what the issue is. It could hardware related in which case you would need to take it to an Apple Store for testing. It could be the OS and the only way to test for that is to do a restore. Ideally you would do a restore as new and test it. If ok restore the backup. If not ok after restoring the backup, restore as new again. If a restore as new does not help then it is likely hardware.
