Q: How to highlight text with trackpad 1?

Apple Magic Trackpad 1 (A1339) with Mac Mini (2014) using OS 10.11.4

I could find no instructions for highlighting text on Apple's website, and I'm unsuccessful in figuring it out. Is it a trackpad 1 function?
