I can't help with software for video streaming but I can advise you to make sure Mac App Store and identified developers is selected in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General.
Never select Anywhere:
- Anywhere – Allow applications to run regardless of their source on the Internet (default in OS X Lion v10.7.5); Gatekeeper is effectively turned off. Note: Developer ID-signed apps that have been inappropriately altered will not open, even with this option selected.

May 18, 2016 9:45 AM in response to christucciaby Linc Davis,I'll assume that your question pertains to "YouTube downloaders" and the like.
Everything on YouTube is copyrighted. The copyright holders decide whether to allow their content to be downloaded as well as streamed. Those who choose to allow downloading can place a "Download" link on the content page. It's safe to use that link. If the link isn't there, saving the content as a file for re-use is copyright infringement, as well as a breach of the YouTube user agreement.
You may not care about that. But installing any software that helps you to infringe copyright, or to do anything else illegal, is one of the most likely ways to become infected with malware. No YouTube downloader can be considered safe to use. Some may not be malicious, but you have no way of knowing which.

May 18, 2016 6:58 PM in response to Linc Davisby christuccia,Firstly, thanx for your assistance Linc. I am a beginner at all this! Not necessarily YouTube, I am aware of the copyright stuff and always observe same but in any event I did not know there was a download feature on certain files in YouTube! A group of us want to share each other's material but I guess we cannot selectively assign a download authority through a facility like YouTube i.e. everyone else would also have access. To this extent, I thought that copyright is an "end user" responsibility. Good advice on the fact that ANY download software could be dodgy - though this is a bit confusing as there are companies selling legit software, alleging to support this function. We will need to research this a little further to effect a solution other than posting out USB sticks! Thanx+ :-)

May 18, 2016 7:10 PM in response to christucciaby Linc Davis,★HelpfulIt sounds like you want your own YouTube or Facebook account so you can post videos. The only software you need for that is a web browser.
