formula to remove new line
I have a spreadsheet with many occurrences of new lines within cells. I wish to remove these and can not work out how.

"I have a spreadsheet with many occurrences of new lines within cells."
A screen shot, or a more detailed description of the issue might help come up with an answer.
My first guess would be that you have accidentally duplicated a table, possibly more than once. Click in any cell, the use the mouse to grab the circle at top left of the table, and drag it right or down until it no longer shows "many occurrences of new lines within cells." Repeat as necessary, until you have a set of separate tables, none of which are showing "new lines."
If this is the issue, then you will probably have data scattered into all of the tables. Pick the table with the most data, move what's missing into that table from the others, using Copy/Paste, then select and delete the extra copies of the table.
Not the issue? Please supply screen shot, and /or mor detailed description.

I am not at my mac, so I can't test this out in Numbers
Can you select one single extra line feed character, copy it. Then do a find/replace where you paste in that character and put a space in the replace field? I am not sure if line feed can be pasted into numbers find/replace.
This has worked many times in excel at my office. (I have this type of thing often when importing data, non breaking spaces, extra non-printing characters)

Thank you all, I worked it out. I was initially typing Option Return in existing string, which was having no effect. I instead cut and paste the actual
symbol (shown here)
from one of the offending cells into existing-string, and this worked.
Thanks for all your responses. Sorry my initial explanation wasn't clear...
Hi Bryce,
Glad you found a solution.

No, but here is a way to use Find & Replace in the Edit menu (Numbers 3).
Select just one soft return
Menu > Edit > Find > Use Selection for Find.
That places a soft return in the find Box.
Now Menu > Edit > Find > Find...
Leave the Replace Box blank.
Replace All
That replaces all soft returns in all tables in a document.
Keep posting; we need people like you!

Ian.
