Q: keyboard shortcut to export photos doesn't work

No big deal but stupidly irritating. I'm looking through photos and occasionally choose one to export. I press command-shift E as per the menu item. Sometimes it work, sometimes it doesn't.

It works fine for me and no one else has ever reported it here

Since you are very far behind on software updates the most likely solution is to get up to date with El Captain OS X 10.11.5 and Photos 1.5

I have OS 1.11.2 and version 1.3 of Photos. I'm not keen on upgrades because they frequently slow things down and reduce functionality. Photos is slower than the old iPhoto and does less. Just putting images in folders is better for my workflow because you can organize it. I can't figure out how to organize anything in Photos.

Is the problem that ⇧⌘E does not bring up the Export panel, or that you cannot see the exported image files?

If the exported files are invisible:  There is a bad bug in Photos that occasionally exported photos will be invisible, if you are using "Filename: Use Title".

See this user Tip:   Bug:  Exporting Images with "Filename: Use Title" Exports the Files as Invisible if the Title has Been Deleted

If you use "Filename: use Title" and the photos have an empty title, because you deleted the title, the filename of the exported file will start with ".", and any file with a "" as the first letter of the filename is invisible.

if the⇧⌘E does not bring up the Export panel, check the keyboard shortcuts in the system preferences.  A different application you installed may have stolen the keyboard shortcut.

Check System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts:  App Shortcuts.  Is another application using the shortcut?Screen Shot 2016-05-18 at 08.53.25GMT.png

Thanks for that detailed answer. I'm a bit embarrassed as Photos seems to be exporting fine now with the keyword shortcut. Last night it was responding with a 'ding' sound sometimes and other times working perfectly when I pressed command-E.

I had a lot of applications open at the time and it may have been related to that.

Perhaps the keyboard input  focus had switched to one of the other applications and they did not under stand ⇧⌘E and just beeped.

Great that it is now working again.

    Ok

    Since you steted thatyou had

    iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

I took your word for it

and you are still three updates behind

    As to

. I'm not keen on upgrades because they frequently slow things down and reduce functionality.

certainly not something I've seen - in fact the Photos upgrades have continually improved Photos, made it work better and added many features - you make your own decisions but if you do not stay up to date you are missing many features and big fixes  --  basically if you do not update then you will be living with bugs that others do not have and missing features that others do have and in many cases when you ask for help you will get wrong answers because most people help based on the latest software which may be different form out of date versions

Glad you got pas this but I strongly suggest you re-evaluate your policy of staying way behind on updates
