FaceTime not working

Hi

I am trying to FaceTime from my new MacBook Air. Unfortunately many of my Contacts have the FaceTime video icon greyed out. Therefore I cannot initiate a call. These same people do not have their Contact greyed out on my iPhone. Any help would be much appreciated.
