Q: itunes thinks contacts is not an apple app

I Think i figured out a workaround from another discussion, but want to find the actual solution to prevent it happening again.

iTunes keeps making a copy of contacts (the actual apple app) in my mobile apps folder. So that whenever i connect my iPhone to sync, it tries, and fails, to install it. This results in my contacts app locking up on "waiting" like its waiting for an install to complete (see image below).

Funnier still is that since the operating system thinks this is not an apple app, I can delete the app from my phone. (second image below)

This, luckily, does not delete the underlying contacts Database, i can still access everything through the different apps (phone, messaging, etc...).

Does anyone know why iTunes would keep doing this and how to prevent it in the future?

To answer some obvious questions i have had previously when trying to restore contacts:

  • No it is not, nor has it ever been, jailboroken
  • No, I did not happen to download an app, or make my own, named "contacts" that just happens to have the same icon as the apple app.
  • Yes this is for real. I can actually delete a standard apple app this way. ONLY this one app though. no others.

thanks

Jason
