Question on how Facial Recognition works in Photos app

I want to be able to import pictures into the Photos app and tag faces, then export the files to another more robust digital asset management product. I do not want to keep the library in Photos once done. If I leave a small number of example files with face tags in the Photos app, will this allow Photos to recognize these individuals the next time I do an import of new pictures?

Thanks for any information or assistance anyone can provide!

Best bet is to play with it

basically when you import Photos scans for faces in the background and if it thinks a face matches an existing one it flags it so next time you look at the faces album there is a set of suggested faces at the bottom of the page which you approve or disapprove

To save these during export you need to select identified faces and assign a keyword to them so you have exportable metadata identifying the face
