Q: Messenger push notifications disappear instantly

Hi!

The thing started after I bought a new Mac Air 13" and I have a problem now with my iPhone 5s (with updated freshly iOS). When I receive a message via Facebook the push notification disappears instantly (it visible for like not even 1 second on the locked screen)?

What is the problem? I have not touched any settings on either Mac (it's push notifications for Facebook active) nor my iPhone.

Also when I receive a message which contains the "thumbs up emoji" it shows itself as a weird question mark in a square on my iPhone and Mac as well.

I know it's detail but it is frustrating nonetheless.

Best regards

MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015), OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

Settings - Notifications - toggle FB to off

    Sign out of iCloud

Do a forced restart -  After shutting down all open apps using the app switcher - invoked by quick double press of the home button and swiping up on each app till it flies off the screen.

Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons down together till you see  logo - then release and allow normal boot up

Then sign back in and see if that makes a difference

Unfortunately this did not resolve the issue.

I've been told by my friend (who is a certified apple specialist in Poland) that this is a software issue (the newest MacOS) and he has the same problem.

    Can anybody confirm that?

It's turned on and still the problem exist. In a very weird fashion though - some notifications stay, some disappear instantly.

My daughter is having the same trouble on her iPhone AND iPod.  Facebook Messenger notifications only show briefly before disappearing so she has to go into the device the log way in order to reply instead of a quick swipe.  She has checked settings etc, turning devices on and off but nothing keeps the notifications on the screen.

This is complete BS that it is not conected to apple. It started after the newest iOS update.

Gotta figure it out 'cause it is annoying as ****.

I completely agree, but this is not happening to any other app. I do not own a Mac and the problem still exist wth face book. I have had my iPhone updated since the newest update came out and this FB messanger "glitch" or what ever this is started happening a week or two ago.

Same here - it started around 2 weeks ago with mine 5s as well (after the update to the new iOS and actually just after I bought my new Mac Air).

Facebook notifications stay up, no problems here, but almost every messenger notifications disappear instantly.

Yea same, I've tried and notified FaceBook about this problem. Hoping the next weekly update will fix this issue.

My friend (the one who is a certified apple specialist for PL) says that there nothing we can actually do. Just have to wait for the next update - not sure if he meant Messenger/Facebook update or the iOS update though.

I have 2 devices running 9.3.2, one is an iPod touch 5 gen, the other is an iPhone 5S. I bought the 5S last weekend.

Ipod touch is working fine. iPhone has the glitch where the notifications come and go. The only difference in settings between the two as far as I can tell is Facebook app notifications (iPod - on, iPhone - off). I have turned them on on the iPhone to test.

I should enable them on my iPad to see what happens.

He meant Messenger. Their last update to the individual app resolved this issue for a lot of users as was previously mentioned in this thread. If your issue is continuing after having updated your Messenger app and you have already deleted the App off of your iPhone after that update to re-download it, but are still experiencing this issue, it will be addressed by the developer in a future update.
