Q: Reset Iphone not working

Hi,

I bought a used Iphone 6 yesterday and I told the user to uncheck "find my Iphone" as I read this has to be done so I can use it.
He did and when I received the phone via UPS I wanted to restore the Iphone to factory defaults.

But the original owner forgot to remove the passcode and just said, I can restore it to factory as he doesn't need anything on it anymore.
When I asked him about the passcode he couldn't tell as he always used his fingerprint.

I thought I'd be able to restore it using iTunes so I went to do "Update & Restore" when the iPhone was in recovery mode but after a few minutes of downloading the iPhone restarted and asked me for the same passcode again.

I'm out of ideas right now and I hope you guys are able to help me out.

I have to add, when I did Update & Restore I never saw the loading bar on the iPhone. It just restarted.

The original owner needs to turn off "Find My iPhone". The iPhone is Activation Locked, described here.

That statement is false - one cannot always use the fingerprint as the passcode is needed after a restart -
That said - try the steps in the article below - if you run into issues - consider returning the phone for a refund
If you forgot the passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support

your link states: "iTunes will download software for your device. If it takes more than 15 minutes, your device will exit recovery mode and you'll need to repeat steps 2 and 3."

I think this is the problem why I never saw an update/progress bar. It takes 40 minutes to download the 1,88GB for me and the iPhone restarts in the meantime. If I want to do an update & restore again it shows up an error 1671. I can only fix it by restarting my Macbook.

I think after restarting the update download has to start over again and this ends in a loop

If that is not working
Please make a Genius appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
