Q: No longer shuffling songs

I have an older iPod shuffle, the one that has no buttons and is entirely operated through the switch on the ear plugs.

It is still working if I slide the on/off switch to the middle position for continues play back. Green light etc as always.

But when I slide the switch into shuffle songs mode, I hear a beep and the iPod seems to switch off as music playback stops, in exactly the same way it does when I slide the switch to the off position, beep and light goes off. The shuffle is fully charged and I have even reset it to factory settings in iTunes. Looks like I am left with a shuffle that still pays back songs but no longer plays them back randomly?

If you already tried doing a Restore, there is probably a hardware problem.  The power switch may be faulty.

As a work-around, you can use the Autofill feature to load the shuffle with a random selection of songs from a playlist of your favorite songs.  The songs on the shuffle will then be randomly-ordered, so using the middle position of the power switch simulates shuffling.  Do a new Autofill each time you connect the shuffle to charge.

If you've never used Autofill feature (which is not the same as automatic syncing), you can post back for more info.
