Q: Final Cut Pro 6 with El Capitan

hello everyone! I have an old FCP version question. Does FCP 6 work with El Capitan OS? I never updated FCP or OS on my MacBook Pro since the last cat version. i want to upgrade now because I want to use office 360 and it requires the newest OS.

does anyone know?

thank you!

Ana

I recently upgraded to El Capitan and like you use FCP 6.0,6. For the last couple weeks I've been on this forum figuring out options to get back to where I was prior to upgrading to El Capitan. FCP 6 or FCS 2 isn't exactly compatible. I recently uninstalled and reinstalled FCP6 and today I going to update FCP6. If you upgrade to El Capitan your going to be forced to upgrade but if your happy where you are I wouldn't install El Capitan on the same system that you have FCP6 installed. I guess the question I would ask myself is which one of those programs are more important to me right now. In my case I've been scrambling for a couple weeks trying to figure out a resolve other than doing a complete uninstall and reinstalling an older OS X Operating System. I hope this helps.

Ana I meant to say FCP 6 or FCS 2 are not exactly compatible with El Capitan

Thank you so much for your info. It makes sense what you're doing with FCP 6. It seems that to keep 6 there are a lot of workarounds. Im going to do more research on FCP. I love using FCP 6, but perhaps upgrading to FCP X would be an option in order to have El Capitan. I don't like X so it's only an option. But for now, I'll keep everything as is. have you thought about upgrading to FCP X? Perhaps it will be easier than going back to an older OS version?

Consider partitioning your start-up drive. Install 10.11 on the new volume. Leave FCS 2 apps on your current OS, where it is stable. If you're curious about FCP X, there is a fully functional trial version. Before downloading I'd recommend taking a look at some video tutorials because it's quite different than FCP 6/7. There are some short (and free) videos here by way of example.

@ERV: Curious how you installed FCP 6 and related FCS apps on El Capitan. I've seen a number of methods posted, but am unable to test first hand.
