Ipads not connecting to some websites

We use ipads which connect to the internet through our school wifi.

Some websites (such as BBC) do not connect - they come up with 'Safari cannot open the page because it could not connect to the server' - but others (such as Wikipedia) open fine. The school wifi works fine to connect to the affected websites on laptops.

It doesn't seem to matter if the ipads have got the latest updates or not as some have and some haven't but none work!

I have tried restarting them, resetting them and clearing the history.

Any ideas as to what the problem is and how to resolve it would be very gratefully received.

Thanks

iPad, iOS 9.3.1

Could be a DNS resolution issue. On one of the affected iPads try changing to Google's DNS:

Settings > Wi-Fi > Click on the Network, Delete all numbers under DNS and enter 8.8.8.8 or alternatively 8.8.4.4

See it this helps....

Is it possible that the iPads are blocked by the school router from accessing "entertainment" sites, while the laptops have been allowed?

Is there more than one WiFi network at the school, maybe "teachers" vs "students", with different privileges?

Exactly what I was thinking. The OP said we so we know this is school-wide and they aren't having any other issues with using the internet from what the OP made out.
