Q: End of the road for my flickering display

I like many have had the flickering problem with my Thunderbolt display. When i purchased a new MacBook Pro just after Christmas it seemed to have cured the problem however out of the blue a few weeks ago the flickering started again!. So i decided enough was enough, Sold the display and purchased an AOC 24 IPS monitor. OK the display on the AOC is not as clear and sharp as the Thunderbolt display but considering there is almost a £700 difference in the price one can easily live with that. Also the screen on the AOC is a matt finish so video is easier to watch without the constant reflection of my surroundings. Anybody thinking of buying a Thunderbolt display should ask themselves is nearly £900 worth the outlay as there are plenty of alternatives on the market to save you a lot of money.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

Not sure you are comparing apples to apples.  As you noted the TBD has better resolution and the TBD also has a camera, USB, Firewire and Ethernet ports.  Also has speakers.  All this adds cost.  If you do not need those extras then there are monitors out there that are far cheaper than the TBD.
