Q: error 39???

Sorry you made no mention that you looked at apple support links in your original post.

I just did a quick google searching typing in error 39 and found some results.

We can rule out your iPad as the error is related to downloading the update to iTunes from Apple's server. While there are no articles that address this specific error code, we can easily assume there is some disrupt in the network connection between your computer and that server port.

If you have not done so already, make sure you have downloaded the very latest update of iTunes from http://www.apple.com/itunes/.

After that, you're looking at fixing the connection manually through whatever means may be disrupting that specific connection...If you can’t connect to the iTunes Store - Apple Support

It may also just be do to some outdated or expired security software that doesn't know what to make of that specific port request and so it is blocking it without your knowledge [I really wish these softwares would have a pop-up message informing you about these instances]

That's awesome! Once the update downloads to your computer, it will be sitting there ready for you when you plug in your iPad. When you choose the option to update, it will just extract the file and load it to your device. You're nearly there!
