Q: Diagnosing LCD Issue: Unibody MacBook

I have a late 2008 unibody macbook that's been problem free so far, however very spontaneously a couple days ago I started having screen issues. Lines will appear randomly (they come and go) which sometimes will go away as I adjust the display. Sometimes the screen will also appear like a negative photo. I took some screen shots of the videos I took when the problem was occurring for reference. I am assuming this is a hardware problem, but I was wondering if anyone on these forums has seen an issue like this before, there are a myriad of problems that come up when trying to search an lcd going bad on a mac. Does anyone have a better idea of what's going on? Thank you for the help.

    Whoa! That looks like a bad connection between the display and the motherboard. I haven't seen it on a Mac, but I actually have a Nintendo DS that does that. I'd take it to an Apple Store to confirm that, though.

    If you have a monitor available, connect it.

     

    If it duplicates that Mac, the GPU is the prime suspect.

     

    If the monitor shows a good image, the display or the display connection is faulty.

     

    An appointment at an Apple store genius bar can result in a definitive answer.  The evaluation will be FREE.
