Q: How do I list the Apple Watch is a source in the Health  app?

I've tried to select a sourced now that I no longer use my Nike fuel band and the health app doesn't list the Apple Watch it says " go to the Apple Watch app  to change  Health data settings for Apple Watch and when I go to the watch app there is no setting  to selected as the source for my activity or is this something that just can't be done ?  I'd like to use the phone and the watch, to check monitor my activity .

Apple Watch, iOS 9.3.2

    Hi

Check that you have enabled the relevant settings on each device:

    • On your iPhone, go to: Settings > Privacy > Motion & Fitness - check that both Fitness Tracking and Health are enabled.
    • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > Privacy > Motion & Fitness - check that Heart Rate and Fitness Tracking are both enabled.

The text that you have quoted indicates that your watch is already associated with the Health app as a data source and may already be sharing data to the app.

That message is only displayed after you have tapped on the name of your watch within the Data Sources tab. It is intended to redirect you to the Watch app if you want to make any changes to your data sharing settings (as referenced in my previous reply).

Check that you have set up the Activity app on your watch:

    - When viewing the time on your watch face, tap on the Activity rings icon / complication, or;

    - Go the Home screen (via a single press of the Digital Crown) and tap on the Activity app icon (coloured rings).

To get started, you will need to enter some personal information.

    Also:

    • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > General > Wrist Detection - turn this on.
    • If you have also enabled Passcode, unlock your watch after placing it on your wrist.

If you have already set up the Activity app, check within the Health app to see if data is already being shared:

    • On your iPhone, in the Health app, go to: Health Data > Fitness > Steps > Show All Data > tap on a date.
    • If you see any data points with the Apple Watch icon next to them, that data was shared to the app by your watch.

With those settings enabled, data from both Apple Watch and iPhone (and any other sources you allow) is automatically shared to and aggregated within the Health app on iPhone. You do not need to manually add or select either of them.

Whenever more than one source provides data for the same time period (such as steps data, if you walk whilst carrying the iPhone and wearing the watch), the Health app uses only of those sources when reporting results and creating charts, so data is not double counted.

Combined data is reflected in charts that can be viewed via the Health Data tab in the Health app. Your preferred charts can be added to the Health app Dashboard (the app's first tab)

For example: to view steps data: on your iPhone, in the Health app, go to Health Data (tab) > Fitness > Steps. Enable "Show on Dashboard" to add this chart to the Dashboard tab (if it is not already there).

You can also view historic activity data recorded by your watch in the Activity app on your iPhone (icon: coloured rings).
