Itunes wont convert to mp3 since the update

The new way of coverting files is. Go to Purchased (if you have bought some music from ITunes that are on your computer not in the Cloud) Highlight all tracks you want converted. Then go to File>Convert>Create MP3 Version. You don't have to play them or convert them individually. As for CDs just set the preference on the import for MP3. PS thanks Dmilano and Ed. I thought they'd taken away the option of converting to MP3's! 😮

Negative! We have a family account. I put some money on it, and let my mother make the purchase from her computer. Now, those purchases won't show up in "purchased" on my computer, and I can only download them in iTunes MPEG-4(protected) format, which will play on zero of my devices. So, in conclusion, I've spent money for something that only plays on the iTunes app. Thanks, Apple. That's about as useful as a poopy flavored lolly pop. And yes, my computer is authorized on the account. I just have the newest version of iTunes, which I don't think she has yet. Once again, Apple has forced everything to be in their personal communist manifesto, great and fearless leader format. lol Nah, I'm just messing around. I would like a solution to this problem, though. I despise Apple products for reasons like this. That's why I have a PC and Android. Everything usually communicates cross-platform pretty well except for Apple. It's like the hold-your-hand OS. I always thought it was for dummies, so that's why I'm a Windows/Linux/Android user

Im having the same issue, I downloaded a music video from a live concert and I'd like to be able to listen to it wherever, not just on iTunes at home. Since I didnt purchase it, the "convert to MP3" option is grayed out. Just to mess with me more, apparently on Macs you can hold down the equivalent to the ALT key and that option un-grays itself.

I found a way to get it on 12.6.0.100, although it is M4A not MP3 but I bet it can be converted.

I went to the track under artist, highlighted it and right-clicked. Next i clicked "Show in windows Explorer".

It was that simple. Hope this helps!

I have been able to convert some audio MPA files from a talking book from my local library but others will not convert in I-tunes whatever I try to do .The files are in showing in Windows Media player but not when I try to view them through

I-tunes. This used to work OK.

That's how I have always done it...no longer working for me. MP3 no longer an option on the Flie/Convert pull down only ACC is given as an option. Does not show MP3 for me as of a couple days ago and I have done this hundreds of times as I am a song writer.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! This was the solution for me. I changed my mac and for some reason the iTunes on the previous one already had this marked. But not the new one. Had to manually change the encoder. Now I can convert to mp3 again.

In 12.4, it can still be done, but it is no longer on the contextual (right-click) menu. Instead, highlight the track and use File > Create New Version.

Which Apple employee thought of this LAME idea? Why not just leave things that are working well! More clicks on the UI and bet you almost no-one that uses iTunes knows this ?

Apple - just leave things as they are! Why always these freakin' updates...clutter, clutter and more clutter!!!

D Milano, I have never heard of a restriction like that. Just make sure that the file you are converting from is on your hard drive (not in the cloud), not protected, and not Apple Music.

Just in case this helps someone- under Preferences/ General Tab, select Import Settings and you can choose which encoder you wish-

AAC, AIFF, MP3, Apple Lossless and WAV.

Then when the contextual (right-click box) comes up it will be whatever you selected in the encoder.

Slayer got it. Thanks. The update had AAC as default (12.4.3.1), I changed the Preferences/General/Import Settings to MP3, and then the "Convert" option is available as expected.

Still doesn't work for me. It makes a ding sound but other than that nothing happens.
