Q: The Mac I used at work was set up under my Apple ID (as were previous Macs over the last 15 years). Since I left the new person can't do OS upgrades because the system wants my Apple ID. Anyone know of a workaround to at least get the latest OS?

The machine is a 2012 MacPro. Files, applications, software etc are all still being used by my replacement. So a clean install is not really a good option.

Mac Pro (Mid 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.

Does it work in the new account?

The erase and reinstall is required to unbind the computer from your Apple ID. While the computer wasn't sold, the items in this article apply.

No. The new employee already had an admin login, and her own Apple ID, but it still was not allowing her to upgrade anything downloaded under my Apple ID.

Not allowing them to update/upgrade anything downloaded under your Apple ID is working as designed, which is why you will need to follow the article I provided a link to. If necessary, the item will need to be purchased/downloaded under their Apple ID.
