Q: problem sending email upon startup

after i start up my computer and i try to send an email i get an error message that says i can't connect to my account and asks for my password. when i type in the password i get another message that says this account already exists. i hit cancel and then i can go to my outbox and send the email. this usually just happens with the first email of the day and then everything works fine.

iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)
