Q: iMac G5 starts up, but will not boot past Apple logo

Hello!

I recently purchased an iMac G5 from an individual on Craigslist.  The computer had a broken power supply when I got it about a week ago, but now since the new power supply I've ordered has come in, I've finally got around to replacing it.  Anyway, the computer now powers on, but it will not get past the Apple logo.  When I turn it on I hear the boot sound and the Apple logo appears.  After about 2 minutes of sitting at the Apple logo, I hear the fans begin to start speeding up and making a lot of noise.  I have tried leaving the computer at the Apple logo for a couple hours, but it just sits there.  Oh, and I almost forgot, the first time I tried to boot it up with the new power supply it gave me a small folder in the middle of a white screen that had an alternating question mark and a finder icon.  Any suggestions? Thanks.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

That means the computer cannot find a valid Mac OS version from which to boot. It can be due to a missing hard drive, a damaged hard drive, a drive with no OS installed, or a corrupted OS installation.

Do you have system install/restore disks that came with the computer?

I do not have the install disks for the computer.  I do have another blank 500 GB HDD that I can put in it if you think that the 80 GB one in the computer currently is broken.  Thank you so much for your help!
